"Summer Forest"

Here is the remaining 35 aspens for the 77 aspens in 7 days challenge :). It complements my "Golden Aspens" painting. I used green color (for some reason I do not use it very often) and bronze and blue details. There is also the inevitable metallic paint - and, again, I am frustrated with taking pictures of paintings with metallic paint in them....
If anyone has any suggestions on how to take pictures of paintings that have metallics in them - I would really appreciate some advice.

"Lighthouse I"

Lighthouses - there is something about them! They are simple, stand alone, often isolated, yet they are full of light and save lives.

There are more than a dozen lighthouses available for rent in Croatia - some day I would like to go on a vacation and sleep in one of them.

"Lone Poppy"

I wish there were more hours in a day! I also wish that I could say that I got caught up with varnishing the paintings and preparing more canvases for future adventures in painting. Well, I did a few this weekend but not as much as I was hoping.

12"X16" Soft Pastel on Ampersand Board. I love Ampersand pastel boards - they are the best support for soft or oil pastels that i know of! I also used them for painting with acrylics and they have performed wonderfully.

This painting is sold.

"Sasha"

I am currently experimenting with different mixed media pieces. It is very exciting to me to use different materials to achieve 3D effects in my paintings. In the mean time I am posting a
portrait of a beautiful little boy who happens to be my nephew! Soft pastel on paper 11"X14".

"Pantocrator"

This painting is inspired by an old icon from the 6th century. The oldest known surviving example of the icon of Christ Pantocrator was painted in encaustic on panel in the sixth or seventh century, and survived the period of destruction of images during the Iconoclastic disputes that racked the Eastern church, 726 to 787 and 814 to 842, by being preserved in the remote desert of the Sinai, in Saint Catherine's Monastery.[5] The gessoed panel, finely painted using a wax medium on a wooden panel, had been coarsely overpainted around the face and hands at some time around the thirteenth century. It was only when the overpainting was cleaned in 1962 that the ancient image was revealed to be a very high quality icon, probably produced in Constantinople. The subtlety, immediacy and realism of the image are immediately apparent when the image is compared to any of the more familiar stiffened and hieratic icons — following the same model - that were painted after iconoclasm had been decisively rejected. Christ here is Christ the Teacher: the gesture of Christ's right hand is not the gesture of blessing, but the orator's gesture; the identical gesture is to be seen in a panel from an ivory diptych of an enthroned vice-prefect, a Rufius Probianus, ca 400, of which Peter Brown remarks, "With his hand he makes the 'orator's gesture' which indicates that he is speaking, or that he has the right to speak."

"After the Storm"

Living in desert is not for everyone. Your skin gets dry, you need to take a bottle of water with you at all times, stay away from sun, conserve water etc... Not to mention the heat! However, colors that desert offers for your visual pleasure are absolutely amazing! I love the desert!

7 Crows

There are so many crows in our neighborhood! I have also seen quite a few at the Zoo today stealing the food from flamingos and ducks. I painted these one day because I could see them from my window on a tree branch in front of our home.

"Cocky"

I like peacocks. They seem to thrive in Albuquerque. I have seen them at Los Poblanos - used to own a share in local CSA. Every week when I would pick up my veggies they would be there - sometimes walking the grounds and sometimes making noises from the cottonwood trees. Beautiful birds.

"Golden Dragonfly"

Painting is not complete until it is varnished. I have to catch up and varnish a bunch of paintings! In the mean time I finished painting of a dragonfly with yellow background and subtle metallic (gold and silver) details. 16"X20" acrylic. There are two photos of the dragonfly painting because I cannot take a good photo of the painting straight on. There is a slight distortion on both pictures since I took each as at angle to avoid getting a huge reflection from the metallic paint. This painting is SOLD.
