Wild Things #8

8x10"

Painting while on the road is always a bit challenging but I managed to try out a few new textures - I love the fiber gel medium for the young owl feathers!

Wild Things #7

I went and bought a few tubes of paint at the local art store in Albuquerque. I brought 10 small gessoed panels with me from home. It is easier for me to have prepared panels, as I like them gessoed with black gesso. Yesterday I had some time to paint this little deer. I realize I may need to go back to the store and buy a few more colors. I miss my bright paints :). I am taking notes on what is the best travel kit I can take with me in the future.

This is 8x10" panel.

New Mexico

I am happy to be back in the Land of Enchantment! It is hot here today and I love it. I have been watching butterflies and bees flying around the mesquite tree. Desert smells so good, sages, lavender, rosemary plants are everywhere.
And, as usual, NM never disappoints on fluffy clouds and blue skies!

Packaging paintings for the show in July

I made some cushy bags for the paintings for the next show. I have been thinking about how to transport them to and from shows and read about this double bubble wrap insulation online. I bought the insulation and a few hours of labor later I have my transport bags ready. I also made a flap for the bags so they can close and used industrial strength velcro to close the flap. Now my paintings will be well protected in transport and can be easily stored away after the show (if they do not sell ;))

I have two shows coming up in July plus a few more paintings to frame etc, so next month will be pretty busy - especially the beginning of the month, and I like to be prepared.

One show is a solo show at Blue Curve Gallery at the Glenrose rehab hospital and the other is at Bookstore on Perron street in St. Albert (starting on July 3rd at Artwalk night)

Alphas 24x48", wolf painting by Natasa Vretenar

I have been working on these alpha wolves for a while. I am using gel medium for the fur. It takes a few layers to achieve the desired fur thickness and many layers of acrylic paint on top of it. For this painting I used Liquitex gel medium.

Prairie Storm

16x20"
We are having some fierce storms here in Alberta in the summer. This past weekend we were in Red Deer and caught a few storms along the way. I think the lighting is amazing during the storms, especially right before the storm when those clouds are about ready to drop rain on the ground. Fields are still sunlit in some places yet dark and ominous clouds are approaching fast.

Cock Collage from January challenge (30 in 30 days)

I completed Leslie Saeta's 30 in 30 days January challenge and painted roosters every day. It was so fun to do it!

Twilight I

36x24"

This painting is a part of the large triptych that is still drying on my easel. I put many layers of paint and used glass bead (Golden) gel medium as well.

It is raining in Edmonton and smells quite refreshing right now.
