As I took out my recycling to the curb this morning - I wondered - how it is possible to accumulate so much cardboard, paper etc in one week. We try to buy things in bulk and transfer the food into smaller containers - it is cheaper and more environmentally friendly. We do a lot of things to reduce, reuse and recycle in our daily lives. We don't hardly use our clothes dryer (except when it is raining or snowing) in order to reduce our consumption. It bothers me that on our street we are the only ones who regularly recycle.

I also realized that the art supplies shipping materials have caused my recycling pile to triple this time. I need to start thinking about finding other ways to get my canvases and paint.

"Butterfly Collection II"

From Natasa's Art
These days I am so busy - I hardly have any time to stop and think about things. I just keep going somehow. Last weekend we spread a lot of grass seeds around and it looks like it may already be paying off. We try to keep our yard xeric but there is a small patch of grass that everyone enjoys and two trees are growing in that area (almond and another one - I have no idea what it is).

June ad for American Art Collector Magazine

This ad is going to be in June issue of the American Art Collector Magazine. It is created by Laurie Pace who is an incredible artist from TX. This is my first ad in a major art magazine so I am very excited about it. And honored to be in a company of such wonderful artists from the Contemporary Fine Art International group and Daily Painters Abstract Gallery.

Palette knife painters blog

I am so excited - I have been accepted to contribute to another fabulous art blog gallery - This is an international site and is growing every day. Please go and visit and enjoy this beautiful website.

I was looking at my paintings I did using the palette knives and I realized that half or more of my knives have mysteriously disappeared from my studio. Well, they are probably in my kids' art supply collection. They like to use some of my art supplies sometimes for their projects and I delight in sharing with them. Kids are so creative and I really like to encourage them to use their creativity.

In the next week or so I would like to post a few posts of works in progress using the palette knives. I don't necessarily have a technique developed - rather it is in itself a work in progress. WIth every new painting I discover a better way to hold a knife or to spread the paint around, or to blend colors. It is definitely an exciting process. I also like to mix techniques and use brush in a later stage of painting for finer details.

"Fishy Business IV" abstract fish painting by Natasa Vretenar

I would love to make these into a bigger project on a larger canvas. These are on 12"X12" canvases right now and I love these fish. Today was a good day in Albuquerque - I painted in the morning when it was sunny - took my easel out on the patio and enjoyed the sunshine while kids were watering the grass and pulling weeds. (Yes, they are becoming more and more helpful!)
The rest of the day I spent preparing for the experiments tomorrow. I am motivated to do some science as well. AMazing what a few nights of regular sleep can do to a person :)))

Riba ribi grize rep "Fishy Business I"

This painting is 12"X12". I started with a thick layer of black gesso, which i used for the first time and am pretty pleased with the results. Then I layered several layers of paint with a palette knife. FInally, I used the small brush for detail work on the fish. I used bronze and silver metallic paints as well.

I have been wanting to paint fish for a long time. This weekend I cleaned our pond and looked at our gold fish and had to paint.

"Sunset II"

I love going to the Adriatic Sea. I have not visited the shore in a long time and I pulled out some of the old pictures from family vacations. They inspired me to try something new, abstract using both texture and metallic paints.
