This is another small painting 8x16". A few years ago I saw Cavalia show and it was a beautiful show. I am doing this little series of paintings of female acrobats on horseback because they remind me of the amazing skills and flexibility the performers had in this show! They were truly in sync with the horses.

I have a bunch of older paintings that are becoming new substrates for my horse series. I like to paint over them because they already have a lot of texture and paint on them - these textures serve as an inspiration for a new painting. I have been painting with my holbein acrylics - I just love them. This is a real small painting for me - only 8x8".

Many folk and fairy tales start with the phrase "Over seven hills...." When I was a kid, my dad liked to read bedtime stories to me. He would tell stories from the Greek, Mayan, Aztec, Slavic, Nordic and other mythologies, and many folk tales. Some stories he would even make up. He was a great storyteller. He often sang me to bed as well. I continued this tradition with all my kids. Many times I would put on an entire show to just read one of their Olivia books, or any other book they liked. At some point kids were not interested in bedtime stories, but I believe that time spent reading with them planted a life long love for storytelling and reading.
Fairy tales of the people of the former Yugoslavia are many. Usually, there are talking animals in them. The kid in me still imagines them talking to me, with their magical powers and shape shifting ways.

I have been working on a few major projects during the quarantine and missed painting so much. I had to start up working on art again, even though the other work is not done yet. I feel good and am just letting whatever ideas come to mind spill directly onto a canvas. It helps to stay motivated to have a theme (guess which theme I choose!). There are also old paintings that need to be reworked or completely transformed into something else.
I am using art supplies that i have at home and trying to push off going to the art supply store. It is actually surprising how many supplies I still have here, considering that I did not buy anything new for a whole year. I am literally burning through the remaining paint and will soon have to go to the art store.

I am happy that my kids are back in school and I can start painting again. I provided a lot of guidance and tutoring over the summer to them as they took a few summer classes to occupy their time during the quarantine. The classes turned out to be quite challenging and rather hard, but it was useful and good for them to learn during the summer. I am proud of them for sticking with it and learning on their own mostly. I only wish that the school stays open for as long as possible and that everyone stays healthy.
I am painting horses this month - the goal is to paint every day and see where the imagination takes me.
